Zamzam Water Story

In the heart of the desert, where no life seemed possible, a young mother named Hagar stood alone with her infant son, Ismail. The scorching sun bore down on them, and their water supply had run dry. In desperation, Hagar turned to the sky, praying for a miracle. With unwavering faith, she began running between the hills of Safa and Marwa, hoping to find something for her starving child. Seven times she ran but found no sign of water.

Just then, the angel Jibril appeared, by the command of Allah, and struck the ground near her son, and water began to gush forth from the earth. Overcome with joy and gratitude, Hajar quickly built a small basin around the spring, calling it "Zamzam", meaning stop flowing, as she tried to contain the miracle. This water was the representation of Allah's mercy and blessings to those who turn to Him for their needs. To this day, Pilgrims who come to Makkah to perform Hajj and Umrah, as well as visitors of the prophet's mosque in Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah, are able to enjoy this sacred water and its benefits: “It is a blessing, and it is food that satisfies.” (Reported by Muslim, 4/1922).
